First Letter from the MTC!
15 Nov. 2012 (she went in to the MTC on 14 Nov. 2012)
Family!
My P-day is next Thursday so we got permission to write today. The first day was crazy! I'm sure I'll be repeating a lot of this in my email next week but oh well. Yesterday was long. The beginning part was like a dream. They herd you through a bunch of rooms and give you tons of papers and stuff. I got my badge like right away so that was great. I was the first one to the classroom. It's tiny. Another Elder, Elder Carty, arrived soon after and we were sent to watch some orientation videos. I'm 72% sure those videos were a test to examine how we respond to frustrating situations though because the videos would only play about a second at a time before buffering some more. And that would last the entire time EXCEPT when it was reviewing the rules and when it talked about the garment. And everyone's video was the same way. My comp. said it didn't happen to her though, so that's why I'm only at 72%. Also because I'm a psych major so of course I think everything is a test. :)
Dad - you'll love this - I am by far the farthest along in speaking spanish. The Elders knew almost no spanish and two of the sisters are okay (BYU 101/102 level). Our district is unusual because there are an = amount of elders and sisters, 4 and 4. My comp. is Hma. Kennedy from California. She's also going to Antofa but the other 6 are going to the Chile Santiago West mission. Hma. Kennedy and I are getting along well, and the other 2 sisters. Hmas Whipple (Utah) and Leavitt (San Diego) are great too. It will be a fun 9 weeks. The elders are funny, but we haven't spent much time with them yet. They are great though because their spanish knowledge exploded from yest. to today. They all practiced last night. That made me extra happy because yesterday none of the sisters spoke any spanish, which made me sad, but they are more willing to after the elders pulled out a big list of verbs they had practiced. :)
Sleep was okay. We don't have a lighted clock in our room and I kept having dreams that I didn't have enough time to shower in the morning, so of course I didn't sleep well. I know, I know -- I will learn to be less stressed about silly things.
We've already had a bunch of workshops. They've been SUPER good but kind of long. Maybe it's just because we've all been tired. We'll get used to that.
Anyway, we want to send our letters before lunch so I have to go. You'll hear from me next Thursday. Look forward to hearing about all the "perks of being an "international" missionary.
I love you all!
