Oh HEy!
Thanks for all the prayers and everything. Life is good! I love being a
missionary. We WORKED this week. Really hard. But we saw some fruits from our
hard work and it was fantastic. It is SO HOT here. It may not look like it on
the internet, but it is way humid here. No Peru or Mexico or anything but it´s
dang hot. And walking in it all afternoon is crazy but we grin and bear it and
try to schedule our most firm citas right when it´s the hottest. :)
Missions truly are like emotional rollar coasters. I´ll describe briefly
one day- last Wednesday I think. We had a lesson with Cristian and his dog came
out and so I patted it´s head and it PEED! Apparently it pees when strangers
pet him. Que verguenza! Then we went over to a great family that we had high
hopes for and they had been watching a ton of stupid anti-Mormon videos on the
internet that had so much false doctrine in it. We were there for forever and
it was so frustrating because they would not trust us. We were pretty down
after that and so we went to another lady that was one of those miracle stories
of how we found her and she basically said she didn´t care enough to pray
because she´s going to stay Catholic no matter what because that´s what her
family is (that happens a TON). We were super frustrated and so that night we
made no bakes and life was all good again. That´s only a tiny example but this
is how it goes down almost everyday (although not ususally as bad with
anti-mormon stuff). So many emotions but if you just stay positive and respect
your leaders, life is always good.
It´s happened. I am converted to goal setting. It´s so motivating when
you put a goal to find 4 new investigators because you know that it´s possible
to find them and so if you get rejected 20 times in a row, you keep going
because you KNOW God is going to help you. Something my companion says that I
love it ¨goals should be just high enough that you can only reach them with
God´s help.¨ I love that!
Yesterday right after we went out to work we got a call from our Zone
Leaders telling us to go get our service clothes on and head over to another
place in Iquique to clean up after a fire. We were really confused as to what
kind of fire would need 18 missionaries to help but when we got there 5 houses
had been burnt down just like an hour earlier and it was a MESS! It was so cool
to all be working together as a zone to help out the people here. The fire was
so sad and we were there working for almost 4 hours! We left when it got dark
and we were exhausted! I was so grateful pday was today. :)
Cristian gets baptized this weekend! I am so happy!!
For everyone- ask yourself what you would say if you had 30 seconds to
describe our church and what it really is. Remember, we are not just another
church. Please remember that we are the ONLY church that has the authority
of God. We are the same church that Christ established on the Earth. Read
PMG lesson 1!!
I LOVE YOU
Hna. Catron
P.S. The super common meal here is chicken, rice, and canned peaches for
dessert. We eat that every weekend with the members. Also since i didn´t do
one last week the picture included is of a funeral. There´s a marching band and
everything and they follow the casket to the cemetary.
P.P.S. ¨al chancho¨ meaning yeah right or everything went crazy. I haven´t
really figured that one out yet. :)
