2nd letter - Thanksgiving Day
Hello family!
Well, I've made it through my first week in the MTC. Yes! It is kind of weird that it's already pday, but since it's Thanksgiving, we don't get a real pday. But fortunately we still get to write! Funny thing- normally on pdays our zone has a certain time to do laundry but we didn't today and so we all knew that the laundry machine was open at 5:30 until devotional today. Hma. Kennedy wanted to go right at 5:30 because she had heard other people going at tjat time but i absolutely vetoed that. Thank goodness I did because apparently everyone went then and so when we went at like 7, we got washers within a few minutes.
Well, my district is pretty unusual. There are 4 Elders (Elders Hill, Carty, Raine, and McAllister) and 4 sisters (Catron, Kennedy, Whipple, and Leavitt). The first day was pretty overwhelming at first. It felt like a dream- like I wasn't actually doing this. They just heard you through all these lines and you get tons of papers and bags and then your host sister kind of takes you on a tour. I saw that my companion was Hna. Kennedy and I just laughed so much because I had already known that and I had already added her on facebook. Just still feeling the effects of my stalkering even in the MTC. My district is great. Elders Carty and Hill are hilarious and everyone works hard. Well, after our chastisement we do. We weren't exactly utilizing our study time like we should have the first few days. It is weird to study in a room with a bunch of people without a teacher or anything and have silence. It didn't happen pretty much at all until our chastisement. But it was good! Now I get so much out of study time! Great, I knew I should have created an outline. Now you all are going to think that we are super slacker, but really it's because it's hard to study when you're in the same room with people who are always cracking jokes.
I found out that indeed, our district is beginner spanish. Hna. Cuttler (our teacher) took me down the second day to get tested into intermediate and I did but they haven't done anything about it, and now I am way too attached to my district to want to change at all, even though I am not being pushed very much in spanish. I speak about as well as the ones in my zone who are going to leave next week, but it's okay. Except for classtime, which is a little frustrating (we learned how to use ser the other day. Ah!), it has been awesome. And it's been cool to help everyone in the district with their spanish. Don't worry though- they are all teaching me a ton too!
My companion is Hna. Kennedy from Murietta, CA. She is a total health nut, even though she "gets mad" whenever I say that. She tells me she used to wear feathers in her hair and wear Native American clothes. Haha! She is a totally relaxed person and loves to daydream. Our companionship has been awesome. We get along really well, and the only things that we really differ on are that she walks really slow and I walk super fast. It hasn't been a problem to spend all our time together yet, especially since we do totally diferent things at gym time and then we don't have to shower or anything at the same time. Once we're in the residence hall- we can pretty much go anywhere as long as it's on our floor- which basically means our room and the bathroom. Hhaha.
I only have 13 minutes left- so I'll start listing things.
-We are always eating. Seriously, it feels like we have always either just eaten or are going to eat in a few minutes. The food is really good- there are a bunch of choices so there is always something you want.
-I LOVE gym time. A lot of people say "just make it to Sunday" or "just make it to pday" and those things are also true, but mine was really, "just make it to gym time." I play volleyball every single time (haha Dad). It is so fun. One time I ran two laps (what?) but mostly I just play volleyball. The awesome thing about that is that I have made a ton of friends, and since I'm the only consistent Hermana who plays and I have a cool name, everyone always say hi to me at meals and in the halls. It's fun. I have a lot of friends, which is interesting because mostly you just spend 99.9% of the time with your district.
-Dear Elder is the BEST! We get letters twice a day so it's way better to dear elder me than email me or anything. I love LOVE getting letters! Thnak you so much to everyone.
-Thanks mom for the cupcakes! I didn't get them until Thursday though so they were already 3 days old when I got them. Whoops. :) My distrcit loved them.
-Perks of being an international missionary- everyone was SO excited to see the "British sister." Everyone in our zone and floor knew about it and so they would pop in all the first day and ask where she was. I've never seen so many disappointed looks when people look at me in my life! Haha. Also I had to stand in different lines than other people. I couldn't figure out why they kept having to move me and I kept standing with people form Spain and Finland and stuff until they finally called me up and were like "so you're from England?" My poor companion had to wait forever while I got the flu shot.
- I'm on the top bunk and there is no latter so we have to climb up the side. It's fine except for in the morning when the light isn't on yet and you are so tired and you just sort of have to take a big leap of faith that your foot is going to hit the bottom rung thing and not fall on your companion.
-I've seen a couple people from The District 2- I love it. I always try and convince my district to watch it.
-You speak spanish so much that you forget that there are people learning other lanugages here. So whenever an Elder holds the door open for us or anything, we just always say "Gracias Elderes" no matter who it is. Poor Korean speakers. ;)
- We taught Carlos and it went well, although sometimes disappointing. Oh man only 3 minutes left and I want to send pictures.
Thanks everyone for the Dear Elders! I will write you back but since we don't have a real pday it might take awhile. We can only write letters on pdays!
LOVE YOU!
