Bad news: The River Dropped. IT IS SO HOT! Basically every city has a dry river in it., and Arica is no exception. The dried out river runs through the sector and it is always filled with trash. But every summer here there is something called ¨The Bolivian Winter¨ and it sends water through the river. We were excited for it because we thought that would cool it down, but turns out it feels twice as hot. We started feeling extreme rises in temperature about the middle of the week, and then we passed the river and saw dark brown water running through. Ahhhh. That´s why it{s so hot! It´s bad news for everyone, because all the water and the trash go to the ocean and completely ruins the biggest beach in Arica. As for updates on investigators: Jacquelin is doing well. She had visits from family this week so we didn´t see her but she is excited about her baptism. Unfortunately, she didn´t go to church because her boss got sick so she had to work, but this week we will be able to focus more on her! The good news is that one of the times we went to visit her, we found a reference that the elders had given us, a 25ish year old girl from Ecuador who is recently here in Arica. She told us that she went to church for about 4 years when she was a teenager and even received her Young Woman´s medalion! We are really excited about her. Her name is Vanesa. We are also working with Luis, who is the father of one of the little kids in the ward. He has occasionally accompanied the mom to church in the past, but wasn´t really interested. However, about a week before we got to the sector, he told the mom (his girlfriend?)´s family that he was ready to really commit himself to finding out if the church was really where God wanted him to be. We had a lesson with him and the mom of his kid and it was really good. He told us that he wants an eternal family and knows that this church is where he can find that. He goes to church all the time and now we just have to make sure he feels it for himself, and doesn´t just join the church so that she will marry him. The other HUGE miracle was that the elders called us on Saturday night and said ¨Hermanas, we have a really big suprise for you. You have a fecha for next week and she´s going to church tomorrow.¨ Turns out the elders of the neighboring ward had been teaching a girl (Daniela, 25ish years old) because she is friends with a member of their ward. She had gone to their ward a couple times and loved it. She prayed to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet and if the church had been restored, and got her answer that everything was true. So the elders challenged her to be baptized and she accepted. However, she needed to go to her own ward. So on Sunday morning we met Daniela and she is great! She still lacks a few things (commandments) but she is completely willing and does everything with real intent. So prayers for her would be appreciated. This week we were incredibly blessed by the Lord. Even though Friday and Saturday were spent walking for hours and hours without anyone opening the door, we were able to see miracles. Annnnd... I completed one year in CHILE! It was really cool that day because all the trainers were going to get their new kids that day too so I could reminice with them. I am so grateful for this year. I feel like I{ve been here my entire life- I can´t remember what normal life is like. :) But it is amazing. I hope everyone is doing well! I love you all!Hermana Catron
