It´s so cold here in Copiapó. I sure wish I had my credit
card so I could buy a coat! ;)
Happy birthday to SADIE!
So the good news here is that we got our zone and mission goal! We
had our baptisms which were really great and widely supported by the ward (a
miracle!) and although I usually don´t watch the actual baptism, they went
really well and it was a nice spiritual experience for everyone.
Nice!
And now... it´s JUNE TIME!
President´s first half year here in the mission, there were 662 baptisms
for the entire year, so it´s the mission goal to get 670 baptisms before
he leaves on July 1st. Everyone has been working like crazy
this year, but it´s nothing compared to what it will be this next month.
Side story- last year the goal for the year was 1000. At the
beginning of December we were WAY behind and President told everyone that he
wasn´t sure we would make the goal. 10 days before the end of the year, we
were missing 59 people. Everyone worked like crazy and we had about
90 baptisms in those last 10 days. I wasn´t there, of course, but since I
got here in January everyone was still crazy hyped about it. Now I live
with Joglar and somehow she got the RAD videos that the assistants made in those
last weeks and now we watch them almost every single day. I recorded them
with my camera this morning to send it to you all but they are too big.
One of them has the Lakers vs. Spurs game clip from several years ago when
the Lakers won with .4 seconds left. The other has clips from Rocky and
Gladiator. ¨Hermanos! Lo que hacen en la vida, resuena en la
eternidad!¨ It´s time to get pumped about JUNE!
In other news, we spent a lot of time in TurBus this week becuase my kid
went to her newbies conference. Travel weeks are always crazy because we
spend a LOT of time at the bus station at like one o clock in the morning and a
lot of missionaries are there. It´s nice because it´s the only time we can
dar jugo with other missionaries and tell stories and not feel badly about it.
You hear the craziest mission stories in TurBus- like this week one elder
told a story about how he contacted a guy in Arica and got super mad because the
guy kept saying he was busy when he was really only watching TV and so the guy
finally stood up and turns out he had really been sitting down going to the
bathroom. Hahaha. I laughed so hard.
We also had a fecha fall this week the day before his baptism because he
decided to get drunk, so that was a major bummer.
Finished reading ¨Drawing on the Powers of Heaven¨ and the book suggests
that you read it once a week for 8 weeks and then once a month after that.
I can see why- it was really intense. It´s like changing the way you
pitch a baseball or hold your fingers on an intsrument- you are so, so used to
thinking one way but when someone asks you to change it and pay attention to
your thoughts (whether they are focused and whether they add or detract to your
faith) 1000 times more and then change them, it gets worse before it gets
better. So right now I just feel like a horrible person because i´ve
realized my thoughts are unfocused a great amount of the time and I end up
thinking about nothing, I´m excited for the turn out! Can´t quit now!
Love you all!
