CONFERENCE!
Well everyone, the most exciting weekend of the half year has passed.
It was great- although I didn´t get quite as much as I think I normally
would have because I was mostly just wondering why they weren´t talking more
about baptism. ;) Elder Holland´s talk was great though and a good
little palo (slap in the face... kind of) for me. The spirit was really
strong and we had some investigators there so we were really happy. The
best part about conference was that it was in ENGLISH! My poor companion
had to take care of the investigators while I was in another room with all the
other gringo missionaries. :)
Not much exciting news this week because we were mostly running back and
forth between our two fechas and didn´t get too many lessons or contacts in.
There was one day where we ended up teaching like 5 different drunk people
on accident. Either we couldn´t escape it because they were Yino´s
neighbor, or they called us from the street. It was really interesting.
And the other interesting thing that happened was that I called the USA!
We got stopped outside a company and they asked me if I spoke English and
when I said yes, they had me call someone in California to ask some questions
about a plane that was being sold. For a second I was really freaked out
because the person selling the plane lived near Sacramento, CA. Haha.
It was fun to call and speak in english especially because the three store
owners were starring at me like I was the President making a decision to go to
war or something. Woohoo! Finally my english was needed!
I´ve been trying to figure out what really drives me as a missionary.
And one thing I´ve learned is how amazing it is to see TRUE, PHYSICAL
CHANGE in the people who embrace the gospel. It´s one of the ways to know
if they are truly keeping their commitments. You can see a physical
change in their appearance as they fill with light. I remember the first
day meeting Yino- he seemed like a good man but nothing too special. Now
he is filled with light and looks so much brighter. Also, a while ago we
were teaching this 30 year old woman who I adored. She was everything I
want to be- except that there was something missing. I know this sounds
like I´m trying to be all Ensign but I could truly see that although she was
already a beautiful person, when she had the light from the gospel she would be
radiant. However, after one lesson she just stopped talking to us and we
never saw her again, despite our best efforts. It was a truly sad
experience. It´s true what people say about members being filled with
light. As we come to accept the Savior in our life and especially as we
keep commitments and partake in the ordinances of the gospel, we are filled with
more light and truth. And light overcomes darkness. Light is
something that is VISIBLE.
Anyway, enough for that rant. :)
About the conference talk about 25 words, I only need 3- patterned after
my favorite scripture ¨If ye love me, go to church.¨ ;)
Love you all!
