Hey family!
First of all, Arica is FLAT! I´m definitely going to get fat. It´s also
been fairly hard to get oriented in the sector, becuase there arený really any
mountains or ocean nearby to be able to see and base it off of. We can
kind of see the Morro de Arica in the distance (like the most famous thing in
Arica) so that helps a little bit. It was a week of a lot of walking.
One time we were looking for a street named Gonzalo Cerdo. I
remembered that there was a street name Cerdo (pig i think) so we walked to that
street and found ourselves going into some other sector. THen I relooked
at the map and realized that the street we were looking for was the border on
the complete other side of the sector. Ay yi yi! So we got to time
and see how long it take to get from one side to the other. Not that long
turns out. Which is good and bad because it also means our sector is
small.
Our ward seems really good. We had about 20 people in Gospel Principles which
was RAD and I hope it is not just a one time thing. I feel so embarrased
when I think about how I didn{t even know where GP was in my home
chapel...
I have very little time because I´m totally desperate to put CHristmas music on
our phone so we can listen to some! If anyone can send me in email some
Christmas music I would be so happy. It doesn´t have to be church music-
just something that brings the spirit (which is like, all Christmas music that
isn´t JBeib or Mariah Carey). Point of Grace etc. I was singing A
Baby Changes Everything today but I can´t remember the words.
My companion is really great. She is a good worker and humble. I am
excited to be with her! Her name is HErmana Arenas and she is from Peru!
CHRISTMAS is soon. But it totally doesn´t feel like it. We bought a tree today
so we were super grateful for the decorations you sent mom! It´s getting
hotter and hotter and it is becoming apparent that Christmas is not NEARLY as
big as it is in the states so that´ll be itnterentesing.
Well, I want to be sure I get this out. I FINALLY had the chance to read the
talks from the Relief Society Broadcast and they totally changed my life.
THe whole idea of covenants and keeping them at a young age and especially
about helping other people realize that they are keeping their covenants was an
idea that I had never even thught about but literally changed my whole entire
view on life and the mission. I am even more excited than I used to be to
be here and to be helping everyone keep their covenants, and for the first time
in a loooong time, I feel like life after the mission (namely, a future family)
might actually be as good as the mission is! Haha. I am so excited
to someday be able to help my children understand the idea of covenants. I
hope that all people who did not have the chance to read those talks goes and
does it right now. ANd that means you men! I am so grateful for
inspired leaders.
I want you to know that I love every minute of my life right now. There are
hard times but whnever I have a moment of thinking about how nice it would be to
watch a movie and do nothing and not have to worry about the salvation of souls,
I think about just how trunky I will be when I get home. Mom and Dad, I
hope you guys aren´t excited at all to have me home someday because it´s going
to be reaaaaaallly hard to not be a missionary anymore. Now that I have
more time on the mission I see people who are going home and it just gives me
great fear. But don´t worry- I don´t think about going home. :)
I love this work. I LOVE the idea of 8 year olds and new converts
understanding covenants.
I hope everyone is enjoying the christmas season! I definitely miss it a
little here, but just remember me when you´re cold- I´M FRYING DOWN HERE!
:)
Love you all!
