Well, the bad news first. We went to visit Jessica on Tuesday last week and she told us that she felt just so, so happy when she woke up (even to self-commiting to live the law of chastity- we had never even talked about it) that she couldn`t help but express her feelings to her kids. Unfortunately, her kids are suuuuuper evangelical and so they got really mad at her, said that we were a satanic church, and said that if she kept with the whole thing, they would never talk to her again. Jessica told us this crying because she didn´t want to lose her kids, but she also didnt want to lose how she had been feeling. It sucked. We talked about following Jesus Christ and at the end of it all, she asked us to not come back, but that if she felt it, she would find us at any cost, even if she lost her family. It was a really sad experience, and really rocked my companion, but I have faith still (even though it gets a leeetle but smaller everyday) that she will decide to follow Jesus Christ. I feel that way because I have already been astounded by how clearly God has helped her see the light, so I don´t think He would stop now. But we will see. Pray for her, if you can. We´re also a little worried because we´re not 100% sure Jacquelin will be able to live there anymore. Hopefully she can because it is reaaally hard to find a room that accepts kids. We also had stake conference this week! It was interesting because of the new thing that they are doing where the apostles are presiding. I actually had a few moments where I got a little emotional because I felt so honored. Haha. But Elder Corbridge spoke and that was awesome because he is like everyone´s hero in the mission because of a really cool talk that he gave called ¨The Fourth Missionary,¨ and also another one called ¨The Vision to Baptize.¨ Those are key talks in the MCA, so it was cool to hear him speak. He spoke on the Law of Chastity (Suuuuper necessary here in Chile- and I think the whole world) and emphazied the point that how on Earth would God trust us with procreative power in the life to come if we can´t control it in this life. I loved it. And the toilet! On tuesday the tank unglued itself from the wall. It is just about the worst toilet in existance, so we were finally able to go any buy a new one! Unfortunately, turns out it was like the oldest toilet in existance because a member tried to help us install the new one and he was like ¨they haven´t installed toilets like that for more that 20 years!¨ So we´re still trying to figure out how to install the thing. I CANT¨WAIT!!!Love you all!
Kim C <[email protected]> Feb 28to Christina Sorry - didn't understand about the apostle presiding...was it via satellite or did you actually have one of the 12 there? Maybe it was Elder Corbridge...which wouldn't be an apostle but perhaps a 70? And why did you feel honored? Maybe because you were close to a servant of the Lord (which of course you are too).
Sorry to not understand, but if you have a minute, please clarify.
Funny about the toilet! I hope the new one is working out!--

Elder cook presided and two 70s that used to be presidents of the area chile spoke. I felt honored that they knew that us down here in a place as insigniicant as the north of chile existed. I mean, I know that they are doing it with everyone, but the church is really struggling down here. I get on lds.org and I see articles about how the church is growing in Africa, Russia, Europe etc and i think about just how many people are inactive here and how many youth are struggling just to hold onto what little faith they have and how the men have to serve as bishop or elders quorum president over and over again because there just aren´t many worthy, tithing paying priesthood holders and you just feel a little discouraged at time. And then to have an apostle and other general authorities greet us specifically and tell their experiences with Chile and give us messages specific to this area, it was a little emotional for me. It`s kind of like the person who is struggling a ton and going through a lot of trials and then God puts something tiny in their path, like their favorite song on the radio or something like that. It doesn`t help directly the problem, but it reminds him or her that God knows what they are going through. Like that time we didnñt have to pay for the micro when we had that horrible week with Salomon. Anyway, that was a bit longer than I expected! Hopefully it made sense!
