18 DE SEPTIEMBRE!
Unfortunately, I totally forgt the converter to send you pictures. You
might have gotten some from a few ward members who said they would send you one
of the pictures, but I´ll get you mine next week.
It was a pretty crazy week due to the holidays. On Monday we had the
conference, so we ddn´t have much of a pday so they gave us tuesday also as a
pday. Nice! We went to the flea market and it was pretty cool. I bought a
bunch of porkeria for you all, but there really aren´t many native chilean
things, like in Mexico or Peru or something. Everyone should pray that I end my
mission in Arica so that I can buy everything cheap, because Antofagasta is the
most expensive city in Chile. ;)
On Wednesday we were invited to a member family´s home to eat. It was
really fun because it was a family of three girls and then the Thomas family,
who are my favorite people here in Antofa (mom- the Thomas´ are the ones that
sent you the picture awhile ago). We also invited the mission president and his
wife to go and so they were able to enjoy the holiday with members. It was fun
and a lot of good food. Unfortunately, typical Chilean food really is not that
good except for the meat, and the typical dessert (mote con huecillo) is really
not very good and a hassle to eat. But we enjoyed it anyway!
On Friday we set up a zone activity in our chapel. Across from our chapel
is the giant stadium, and there they had the fair for the hlidays. There were
thousands of people there, so we took advantage of it and everyone from our zone
came to have an open chapel. We showed Mormon Messages and all the missionaries
went out to invite people to go. We only did it for a short amount of time, but
we ended up getting a bunch of references so it was awesome. We repeated the
activity on Sunday and so we were able to get a ton of references. A bunch of
the people who went it were unsure, but the Elder who was presenting the videos
is from Mexico and used to be a radio host, so he did it super well and everyone
left really happy and totally willing to give us their directions. We have an
appointment tomorrow at 4 from one such, so we´re really excited!
Salomón and Rolando are doing really well. Salomón is really excited for
his baptism this saturday and we are too! We also had another couple in church,
but they have a 2 year earthquake daughter so we ended up spending almost all of
the sacrament meeting chasing her around so her parents could listen. They´ve
been before, but I´m worried they might not want to come again because of their
kid. At one point she pushed a table off of the stage and it made a huge
crashing sound and everyone stood up to look. Yikes. But they are good. The
wife, Mayleen, already has a testimony and wants to get baptized and be a
member, but they aren´t married and he isn´t sure what he wants, so we´re in
that situation right now.
I finished the Book of Mormon again. It´s incredible how slowly I read it
because I was reading it with the manual, but I am amazed at how incredible that
book is. Of course, the last 100 or so pages are pretty depressing because the
people are so wicked, but the whole thing is amazing. Mormon 6 (I think) was
especially rough times, ¨Oh bello pueblo! Como pudisteis?!¨ I nearly cried.
Actually I think that I sat there and stared at the wall for like 5 minutes
because I was so sad about the wicked people that I couldn´t move on. Haha.
The gospel is true and it changes lives. I am so proud of Aunt Mary Alice
and her family and everyone else who is striving to help others to come unto the
gospel. I am incredibly excited for general conference, and I invite you to
think and pray about someone to invite to watch it. There is no way they wont
be able to feel the spirit as our prophet testifies. I love you all! Pray that
everything goes well with Salomón on Saturday!
VIVA CHILE!
