We had cambios last night! In about 4 hours I will be on a bus to
COPIAPÓ!!!
VanMeter is staying and training her fourth hija (dang!).
My new companion is named Hermana Joglar and she is from Argentina.
Doesn´t speak a word of english. Haha. Everyone called
it.
But more importantly, I cannot even describe the miracles that
happened in the last few days! We were stressed all last week because we
had a fecha for Saturday and we had no idea if it was actually going to
happen. His family was a HUGE opposition for him and he was so-so
committed. He got baptized on Saturday and it truly was a miracle that two
days before, he went into his baptisimal interview not fully committed and came
out fully committed! Our zone leader is a master.
But
the biggest miracle of the week is the story of Teresa´- her son is a less
active from many years ago that we visited like our second week in the sector
and she agreed to meet with us. She progressed pretty well but had a
boyfriend that she had been with for several years and although she was willing
to live the law of chastity, he wasn´t. Then his parents came into town
for a month and we couldn´t meet with her AT ALL or get her to come to
church. We gave up on her and rewrote her name on our board from
¨progressing investigators¨ to ¨pretty much dead investigators¨ who are the
people that are on our plan B lists. Her boyfriend´s parents left so we
decided to try her one more time but we weren´t very hopeful. When we
went, she had seperated from her boyfriend and he went to Ecuador and she was
100% ready to get baptized. So she did! She got baptized Sunday
night after church. It was a MIRACLE! Hermana VanMeter and I went
from thinking that we weren´t going to have any baptisms in this transfer to
having a miracle happen. It was so inspiring to see the Lord´s hand in
everything. I love this work. This gospel is true and it changes
lives!!!!
A few funny stories from the week- we were walking on this path behind our
house and a guy pulled down his pants and went to the bathroom in front of
us!! It must have been an emergency because before we could look away we
saw everything come out. Nasty nasty nasty. At least we only saw his
backside.
And a few weeks ago we knocked on a door and could
hear this huge shuffling sound for a whole minute on the other side of the
door. There was a hole where the door knob usually is so I peered through
and saw WAY TOO MUCH SKIN. He answered the door and was completely naked
except for a tiny loin cloth or something and a walker )he is missing a
leg). Hermana VanMeter thought he was naked and so put her planner up by
her face to block it and invited him to church. Then we left and burst out
laughing. A week later we saw him (dressed this time) out in front
of his house and VM felt to talk to him. We taught him and he said he
wants to get baptized! I´m not positive he knew exactly what we were
saying, but it would be an AWESOME end to the story. We have realized that
stories on missions- what makes a story truly good is if it ends ¨and then he
got baptized¨ ;)
I love you! The
next time I write it will be from Copiapó (where the mining accident
was).
