Hi family!
Today is our pday because yesterday we had a conference to say goodbye to
our President. It sucked, but we´re all really focused on reaching our
goal this month so that President goes out in style! :) The assistants
made a really cool video that had a ton of baptism pictures and ex-missionaries
talking to us. At the end of the little montage of videos from the old
missionaries where they pumped us up for this month, one of the missionaries
looked down and said- ¨No hay nada como la mision. There is nothing
like the mission.¨ It about broke all of our hearts. And it´s true. I
can´t imagine being anywhere else. One thing that was interesting was that
in the conference, President told us that we were sent to this mission because
we are ¨baptizers¨ and it was such a cool moment. I love being here.
I am so lucky to be in this mission.
Some stories from the week-
On
Monday night we were in a lesson and got a call from the other
hermanas telling us to come home because we needed to go rescue an investigator
from her crazy boyfriend. And when I mean crazy, I really mean that he has
some serious problems. She has been wanting to get baptized for a long
time but couldn´t because she was convive with her boyfriend. There are a
lot of details to this story, but basically Fanny needed to get OUT of that
horrible house right then and leave to Santiago and we were going to help her.
However, when the hermanas were going to go get her from her house, they
called her and Fanny started to second guess herself. (We were all in
contact with the bishop 100% of the time, by the way) So we came and
helped out. We started Operation: Rescue Fanny. I´ve posted some
pictures of us right before we went to get her. We took every procaution
to make sure everything was completely safe, but in the end, Fanny chose to stay
in that house and wait for her brother but now we´ve talked to her and she has
decided to stay with her boyfriend. We were really sad about it because
she had the chance to get out and start over new but she couldn´t leave behind
what was bringing her so much grief and maldad to her life. A nice like
analogy for us too- we have got to let go of the things that are holding us
down, even if they are small!
On Wednesday we went to a little pueblito outside of the city.
Unfortunately, we had the wrong name for it and they ended up dropping us
off at a resort (where we found a waterfall! manmade...) so we asked them where
all the people lived and the guy told us that it was ¨behind that mountain¨ but
that it was too far to walk so that we should take a micro. The mountain
looked really close so we ignored his advice and walked. An two hours
later we arrived at the pueblito, taught one lesson, and had to go back because
it was too dark. Whoops.
On
sunday we were walking to go find investigators and went to
Carolina, who was baptized last week, to bring her and her family to church.
When we turned the corner to go to her house, we thought it looked a little
different and then we realized it had been completely burned to the ground.
It was the weirdest feeling, becuase there was nothing and nobody there.
After a few minutes of just starring, we saw some neighbors and asked them
what had happened. Everyone had a different story, but what they all
agreed on was that there had been a fight and that the house had burned down in
10 minutes or less. We knew the kids were okay but we had no idea what was
going on with the parents. After church, we helped the neighborhood
council find clothes and blankets for the family while they are living with an
aunt. We got the whole story and it was a not a happy story. We´ve
been trying to find and help this family for awhile now but nobody is ever home.
Anyway, we´re still trying to help them, but they are living outside of
our sector right now and so we´re not sure what´s going to happen. It was
a really sad day.
I think all these stories make it seem like this week was full of danger or
something, but I promise my sector is super, super nice and safe (awesome to
live in, lame for missionary work ;)). It was a really good week full of
good lessons but we´re really stressed because we don´t have any investigators
that are progressing. But the miracles will come! Of this I am
positive.
I love being here. I love being a missionary. There is nothing
better than being a missionary and sharing the fulness of the gospel. I am
happy as can be, even when I am stressed out! :) I started the Book
of Mormon over again and it has been a great experience. 1 Nephi 8 is so
cool. For a little bit of deep doctrine, compare Doctrine and Covenants 131: 7-8
and Moses 6:36. Espeically after studying sensations and
perceptions, I think this scripture is awesome. Jesus Christ lives.
This church is the only true church on the Earth and has the fulness of
happiness and don´t you be afraid to admit it.
Rock on.
